Glass Painting & Decorating/Altered Glass Art

Artists or illustrators can choose between: (1) non-toxic or solvent-based products (2) translucent or opaque paints (3) matte or gloss finishes (4) application options e.g. brushing, sponging, writing with pens, stencilling and pouring (5) flat or dimensional products (6) special affect products e.g. frosting, snow, glitters (7) food-safe, dishwasher-safe or oven-proof paints.  Even standard acrylic paint can produce stunning results on glass and there are some great options for producing special affects like black leading to achieve imitation stained glass artwork.

Glass painting is also great for recycling e.g. wine bottle painting, light bulb painting, revamping glass jars or painting glasses that have become cloudy from the cleaning products used in dishwashers. Typically, glass paints can be used on other shiny surfaces too like tableware (porcelain, ceramics, stoneware etc), plastics, mirrors, metal and windows.  It makes a great way to personalise or embellish home décor items, DIY projects or gifts.  There are plenty of videos, books and forums that provide tips, techniques, templates and step by step instructions for glass painting projects.
