So select wisely, this is probably the largest expense in your budget.
Here are some tips.
Size is important because you need to select a kiln that is neither too large for the amount of traffic it will see or too small to be constantly over loaded with work. We can advise.
Select the correct kiln furniture for the role planned. We can advise.
Do you need Plate cranks and Tile setters? We can advise.
Select the correct controller for the role planned. We can advise.
Consider where you intend to install your kiln. Every location has its own peculiarities AND doors, windows, access dimensions, power supply, water supply, floor, ceiling, lighting all impinge on your kiln selection. And do not forget fume extraction arrangements. We can advise.
Buy where maintenance and support is readily available.
Consider the whole package! Best value for money can be obscured by the impact of a low price. Consider the safety features, the quality of the fire brick used, the size and gauge of the heating elements, the strength and resistance to corrosion of the chassis, and just how user friendly and reliable is the controller?
Can your back survive lifting heavy kiln batts?!
We have operated a variety of English, German and USA manufactured kilns over the years. We are well placed to give independent advice on your particular requirement. We offer a free one to one training module on kiln management at our Training Academy. This includes programming, loading and cycling your kiln for most efficient and effective results. For customers unable to visit us, we offer a FREE programming and advice service over the telephone. If you buy from us we promise to support you throughout your kiln ownership.

A kiln is probably the largest and most expensive piece of equipment you will buy, so it is important that you choose the right model to suit your needs. Kilns are also the most important element (excuse the pun) of your business as without a fully functional kiln you cannot trade and you will very quickly lose your customers, particularly if their pieces are not fired correctly or on time.
Country Love Ceramics have a number of kiln packages that we will be happy to discuss on an individual basis. These include starter kits from around £900 (includes kiln, basic start-up materials & accessories). Tell us your plans, your budget and your expectations and we will work with you to find the right solution for you.
Payment Options?
Whether you are buying your first kiln or need to re-equip, your cash maybe tight. Talk to us about our new leasing options. These range from as little as £17.19 per week (package valued at £2k).
Size is important because you need to select a kiln that is neither too large for the amount of traffic it will see or too small and constantly overloaded with work. Moreover, every location has its own peculiarities: door and window dimensions for access, power supply, water supply, floor, ceiling and lighting all impinge on the kiln selection. We recommend that you t hink carefully about size in terms of the amount of work you are going to produce and the largest piece you need to put in the kiln. Assume you will get one firing per day at the most. Also remember, the larger kilns cost less to fire per piece if fully loaded.
Hobby kilns are available in a 13amp domestic plug option. These kilns do not need hard wiring - you can just plug them in and begin.
For larger kilns it is advisable to ask a qualified electrician to carry out a site survey and provide a full quotation based on the power supply requirements.
Make sure you site your kiln in a well-ventilated area away from flammable materials, debris and children. If the kiln is for home use, most customers use an outhouse, garage, shed or workshop with a window or extractor fan. A venting kit will be available to purchase mid 2007.
Remember to check that the floor is strong enough to take the weight of a fully loaded kiln.
Check EVERY door width from the outside to the final destination.
Do not order pieces larger than the width of your kiln shelves/inner dimensions.
Two power supply options are available - single phase or three phase. Single phase is the most common supply and means that the kiln will be hard-wired (like a cooker switch). A t hree-phase supply is less common and is found in some high street locations and industrial units.
We always recommend that a qualified electrician carry out a site survey prior to purchase. This way, you will know whether you need a single or three phase kiln, the most suitable kiln to buy based on the power supply (some sites will be restricted by the number of amps available for use) and you will know the full cost of the kiln installation. Always ask for a full quotation in writing. In our experience the installation costs vary dramatically so it is best to get a couple of quotations.
Delivery prices quoted are mainland UK only. For all other locations, quotations can be obtained in advance of shipment if required.
Some Nabertherm kilns are held in stock at Country Love Ceramics. These are held for emergency orders and are likely to incur additional delivery charges (unless collected).
All other Nabertherm kilns come direct from Germany and take approximately 2-3 weeks.
The EF-110k kilns are also held in stock and will be shipped according to our terms of trading.
We will work with you on an individual basis to fill in any gaps of knowledge. Our aim is to help you develop a successful business or pastime.
These round, Top Loader kilns from Nabertherm all come with a good 3-year warranty (excludes thermocouples and elements).
Supplies:
Nabertherm have been manufacturing kilns for over 60 years and are world leaders in their field. Country Love Ceramics have been selling Nabertherm kilns since 2004 and we are impressed with their customer service and support. Although there have only been a handful of occasions when we have needed to order spare parts, replacement parts have arrived within 24-48 hours.
Safety:
All Nabertherm kilns are made to an extremely high standard and are located in homes, potteries, schools, nurseries and businesses throughout the world. Nabertherm kilns are TUV tested and bear the GS & CE symbol as proof of their safety philosophy.
What's included?
All kilns come with a digital controller (2 programs) with adjustable ramps. The kilns can cycle within 24 hours and have a lightweight sprung, lockable lid. They represent excellent value for money as they are energy efficient, easily portable, quiet and produce even firing results.
If you decide to purchase a kiln we will give you a complimentary ½ training seminar to learn about glazing and kiln management. This seminar includes advice on glazes, dipping, brushing and spill glazing techniques, tips for safe storage, dry footing and stilting, efficient kiln loading, advanced loading techniques and trouble shooting. We will also provide a free of charge “Glazing and Firing” manual, ongoing telephone support and supplementary training. We even have a set of “easy to follow” kiln programming instructions that we have written ourselves to ease the burden of reading through the kiln manual.
Attend our New Business Course seminar and receive a £50 discount voucher* off the cost of your Nabertherm Top Loader kiln.
Controller Upgrades
As well as using the KTOP kilns for ceramics, these kilns can be used to fire glass with the help of a C290 controller Either request a C290 upgrade when
purchasing a new KTOP kiln, or speak to a member of staff about C290 controller upgrade for your existing kiln.
Nabertherm F30, F75 & F110
These round and oval kilns have the same qualities as the Top Loaders featured in the previous section (see Ceramic Kilns) but include a more sophisticated controller with advanced cooling controls. Alternatively, see section above for controller upgrade options.
EF-110k
This small square kiln is ideal for any desktop location. It heats up quickly and can reach approximately 900°C in about 25 mins. This kiln has a 2 year warranty. Attend our Enamelling Course and receive a £40 discount voucher* off the cost of an Enamelling Starter Kit.
